Five hundred years after the surviving crew of the Magellan-Elcano expedition completed the first-ever global circumnavigation, WhistlePig embarked on its own epic, globe-spanning whiskey voyage. Matured on land and sea, the barrels for this release were sent to age in the intense climate of Andalusia, Spain. In the spring of 2022, the shipment was temporarily lost at sea during ocean transit. WhistlePig celebrated the miraculous recovery of these barrels by naming this triumphant, highly limited bottling “The One That Made It Around The World”.

The Unprecedented Four-Cask Finish

While standard Boss Hog chapters are limited to a dual-cask profile, the VII/I cross-series edition is a historic fusion. To craft this complex liquid, WhistlePig selected just eleven extraordinary barrels of 17-year-old straight rye and finished them sequentially using all four exotic wood treatments from the seventh and eighth chapters:

1. Spanish Oak: High-tannin wood from Northern Spain that adds deep, bold oak structure and robust baking spice.

2. South American Teakwood: Fragrant wood that introduces complex, aromatic herbal qualities.

3. 7-Year Philippine Rum Barrels: High-toast, small-batch rum casks that layer in warm vanilla and toasted sugar.

4. 10-Year Philippine Rum Barrels: Provides a final, luxurious layer of rich, dark tropical fruit and molasses.

Tasting Notes

• Nose: Rich and deeply sweet. Lush aromas of warm vanilla, butterscotch, and underripe banana yield to deep oak, citrus zest, and sweet molasses.

• Palate: Thick, bold, and multi-layered. Waves of freshly ground cinnamon, toffee, and traditional black pepper rye spice are perfectly balanced by tropical fruitiness and exotic, fragrant wood.

• Finish: Monumental and complex. Long-lasting notes of tanned leather, light brown sugar, nutmeg, and allspice gently fade into a warm, peppery close.

The Double-Topper Presentation

To honor the historical scale of this release, every bottle of VII/I comes crowned with two hand-cut Danforth pewter stoppers instead of the customary single stopper. Mounted on the cork, the figures depict Ferdinand Magellan and the Filipino warrior chieftain LapuLapu locked in their historic battle of resistance. Highly limited, historically rich, and visually spectacular, this is a legendary trophy bottle for the absolute pinnacle of any whiskey collection.
