WhistlePig FarmStock Rye Crop 002 is an milestone bottling for the Shoreham, Vermont farm, representing the steady realization of their grain-to-glass dream. While the original Crop 001 featured only 20% estate-distilled whiskey, Crop 002 ramps up the farm’s own influence to a notable 32%. This estate-grown portion consists of a young, vibrant 2-year-old rye distilled directly on-site from grain grown in their own fields, proofed with well water from the farm, and matured in barrels coopered from native Vermont white oak.

To round out the young spirit’s raw power and build complex layers, the estate rye is blended masterfully with aged sourcing partners: 45% of an elegant 6-year-old rye from Indiana and 23% of a robust 10-year-old rye from Canada.

Bottled at a highly approachable 43% ABV (86 proof), the resulting whiskey is a fascinating window into the evolution of the craft distillery. The native Vermont oak—which features a tight grain structure due to harsh, freezing winters—infuses the younger spirit with rich wood sugars and a deep maple sweetness that belies its age. Combined with the older, well-structured sourced ryes, Crop 002 delivers a harmonious balance between youthful, vibrant spice and refined, oak-matured depth.

Tasting Profile

• Appearance: Bright, warm amber-gold with light clarity and delicate, quick-running legs.

• Aroma: Fresh, sweet, and highly aromatic. Aromas of orange zest and sweet honey are closely followed by hints of fresh mint, white pepper, vanilla bean, and a mild, earthy undertone of damp oak.

• Palate: Light-to-medium bodied, crisp, and clean. An initial wave of sweet vanilla, caramel apple, and bright citrus peel coats the front of the tongue, before transitioning into a gentle mid-palate of baking spices, white pepper, and toasted rye bread.

• Finish: Medium in length, dry, and exceptionally clean. The sweet fruits and rich vanilla taper off, leaving a lingering trail of warm baking spices, fresh mint, and a soft, dry oak finish.
