WhistlePig FarmStock Rye Crop No. 001 is a highly sought-after collector’s bottle, representing the absolute beginning of the distillery’s “triple terroir” mission—distilling estate-grown grain, proofing with well water from the farm, and aging the spirit in barrels coopered from native Vermont white oak trees. Released in 2017, Crop 001 was a monumental release because it was the first time the public was allowed to taste WhistlePig’s own house-distilled rye.

To create a balanced and complex pour, the young estate distillate was combined with well-matured sourcing stocks. The precise blend for Crop 001 comprises:

• • 20% Estate Rye: A vibrant, young 1.5-year-old rye distilled directly on the farm from their own crops, aged in custom native Vermont oak.

  • 49% Indiana Rye: A mature, elegant 5-year-old rye that provides a classic, spicy mid-palate foundation.

  • 31% Canadian Rye: An older, heavy-bodied 12-year-old rye that adds deep structure, rich wood sugars, and a velvety mouthfeel.

By blending these distinct whiskeys and bottling at an approachable 43% ABV (86 proof), WhistlePig succeeded in capturing the bright, sweet, and lively characteristics of their youthful farm-grown distillate while grounding the final product with the rich, deep oak complexities of aged sourcing partners. It stands as an essential piece of craft whiskey history, documenting the very first steps of one of America’s most famous rye houses.

• Appearance: Pale straw-gold with high clarity and quick, delicate legs.

• Aroma: Bright, sweet, and highly aromatic. Prominent fragrances of sweet vanilla bean, fresh mint, and orange peel are backed by warm baking spices, caramel, and a delicate, earthy hint of young oak.

• Palate: Light-to-medium bodied, crisp, and extremely clean. Upfront flavors of honeyed fruit, sweet tobacco, and citrus lead into a gentle mid-palate filled with white pepper, nutmeg, and toasted rye bread.

• Finish: Medium in length, dry, and exceptionally refreshing. The sweet vanilla and fruit notes slowly fade, leaving a clean trail of wintergreen mint, gentle baking spice, and a soft, lightly toasted wood tannin.
