Dedicated to the memory of WhistlePig’s beloved late pet pig, Mauve, The Boss Hog IV: The Black Prince is widely considered one of the greatest releases in the distillery’s entire history. It made waves across the spirits world when it was crowned “Best in Show Whiskey” in a blind tasting at the prestigious San Francisco World Spirits Competition.

This bottle is the exceptionally scarce “Skinny” Black Prince variant. During the very beginning of the Boss Hog IV bottling run, a small number of bottles were crowned with a slimmer, more delicate pewter pig stopper before the design was altered to the wider, more common “fat” prince stopper. For the serious WhistlePig completist, the “Skinny Prince” is a vital trophy bottle that is nearly impossible to find today.

The Finish

The Black Prince represents the first time a straight rye whiskey was ever finished in French Armagnac casks. The 14-year-old straight rye base was rested in these active brandy casks, creating a flawless marriage of robust, fiery American grain spice and elegant, fruit-forward French sophistication.

Tasting Notes

• Nose: Intensely aromatic and dessert-forward. Armagnac-accented oak leads the way, followed by rich notes of dried apricot, fig, plum, and toasted almonds.

• Palate: Deeply complex and structured. Bold waves of cinnamon, clove, and black tea are beautifully rounded out by juicy citrus and jammy stone fruits.

• Finish: Spectacularly long and comforting, leaving behind decadent traces of toasted marshmallows, burnt sugar, and rich, lingering dried fruits.
